everything tetris

continues

from geekologie the tetris mirror!
The Tetris mirror is the brainchild of UK product designer Soner Ozenc. It's a mirror made of 13 separate interlocking pieces. They come in gold and silver surfaces and totally suck because there's no such thing as single square tetrads in Tetris. Come on Soner, get with the program...............

from monster crochet

(which is a GREAT site i might add) a pattern for a KNITTED half round shawl - you're on your own as far as the embellishments are concerned. lobsters and pimentos are a couple of her choices

elsa mora

blog of the month. what wicked cool stuff! here are just three examples out of MANY. stop by. you won't be sorry (shout out to craft magazine for the link)

wow wow and wow

i am learning to spin on a drop spindle

i stink (so far). it's quite a challange. it took me two weeks just to be able to start drafting. i don't have the consistency part down pat yet (well in all honesty i am nowhere near having it down pat). my singles are still all thick and thin and wound too tightly and not tight enough. i AM getting the hang of it though. i actually AM getting a tiny bit better. with a TON of practice i KNOW i'll be able to get a decent yarn. we also learned how to card with hand carders. i've yet to practice that though (after the class i mean). i am taking a three part class and i have one more to go (in a couple of weeks - so i'll have plenty of time to keep trying),

the purple is a single i spun out of wool roving. it's a mess but i LOVE the color. the yarn on the right is my first try at plying. it's the purple single and a single i did out of multi colored (blues and greens and purples and greys) silk (the silk was a BITCH to spin). i like the colors.

PEEPS!

the wapo had it's second annual peeps show

here are a couple examples of the dioramas

Peep Art
Finalist: "The name is a pun, and the concept itself is the pun," explains Ilana Greenstein, 31, of Alexandria, an operations officer for the CIA who made the diorama with Jane Dokko, 30, of Washington. Their creation exudes the austerity of a museum, but within the mounted frames it's colorful chaos. And let's not forget: Admiring the exhibit are Andy Warhol and Edie Sedgwick themselves. Julia Ewan - The Washington Post

Amy Winepeep's 'Rehab'
Semifinalist: Karen Besser, 58, of Arlington and daughter Nina Besser, 23, of Fairfax tackle Amy Winehouse's famous song and its real-life connotations. "Our toughest decision was whether she was Amy Peephouse, Amy Winepeep or Peepy Winehouse," says Karen. "The toughest technical aspect was getting the tattoos to adhere to her pipe-cleaner arms."

The Wonderful Wizard of Peeps
Semifinalist: "The whole project took me about two days," says justice advocate Kate Braggs, 23, of Washington. "The yellow brick road alone took hours to cut and lay." The background and scenery, including the poppies and the road, are made of paper.

better than a blt

1 whole wheat (or whole grain or sprouted grain) tortilla

3 grape tomatoes (or a few slices of regular tomato)

4 sugar snap peas

vegan mayo (i made my own. silken tofu, dash of mustard powder, splash of vinegar, dash of agave nectar, dash of salt, dash of pepper. if you'd like you can drizzle some oil into the 'mayo' as well. i did not)

2 strips vegan bacon

nutritional yeast

spread mayo on tortilla, sprinkle yeast, throw in tomato, vegan bacon, sugar snaps. wrap it all up and you're good to go!

onion is missing. i can't tell you why though. i ALWAYS put onion in almost everything. i'd add onion if you just give me another chance......

hat tip to sprite stitch

tree sweater!

way cool knitting!

arts and crafts cooperative
Several of us in our art group started a tree sweater in Yellow Springs Ohio. We have the story and slide show about it on our Jafagirlart Website. Some people don't get it, some people don't like it, some worry it will hurt the tree, some think knitting should be put to a better use, some people wonder why! It is not a new concept, been done quite a few times, but what makes ours a little different is that is really has become a fun community project. People have come and added their own knitting, added jokes and poems for the pockets, donated knitting. Whatever some may think the bottom line is that people are laughing and enjoying it, touching it, exploring it, finding out about the tree (a bradley pear). Now that isn't a bad thing eh!
