Staff at Lego have business cards with their details printed on a toy figure which looks like them. If only we could get these at the Guardian!

she's not done yet

but i was so happy with her and i couldn't wait to post a picture (or two) of her until she was completed (the wings and the big yarn ball she's sitting on have to be done). pictures are crappy.. i took them upsidedown and spinned them around.

i really LOVE her. i got her done at liberty tattoo in berlin by pat macdonald (his pops and i go waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back)

anyway, if you're in the mood for some ink, stop on by liberty they'll hook you up

and yes, i'll post her when she's DONE as well

in all fairness my knitting fairy is loosely based on a drawing on saw on the internet (i can't find her again or i'd give credit where credit is due). i told pat i wanted her to have a bun and have knitting needles sticking out of it. i wanted her to have wings and i wanted her to be sitting on a big ball of yarn. i wanted a raven in there somewhere and i wanted some purples. HE came up with the drawing which i will say once again I LOVE

the spring knitty

is up

and guess what? i WAS going to submit a pattern to them for consideration for the holiday gift season (it's a fairly easy pattern and a fairly quick knit. it's quick that is if you KEEP UP WITH IT. i am not finished knitting it yet. well, i'm working on two of them, but i'm also working on other things. i will try to finish in the next week and submit it. one never knows).

anyway look at this BEAUTIFUL cover project

it's called shipwreck and it's by bethany whose blog knitty harpy is HERE

the wicked beautiful shawl is a variation of ez's pi shawl. plus this one is beaded (you can't see it very well in the picture - which by the way is from bethany and mike kok)

i love hedgehogs

and even think from time to time about getting one. i ultimately decide AGAINST it though, they're animals that shouldn't live in a cage of course.

ok, this is a GREAT birthday idea

and it just may be close to someone's birthday (hint hint hint)

felix at avoision had his office showered with balloons. each balloon had a note attached from a friend or family member (with a personal birthday message). liz, felix's fiance was responsible. wow liz, this is one of THE coolest ideas i have ever heard of.

pictures are from felix's blog (avoision)

Sita Sings the Blues is finally free!
Posted by Cory Doctorow

After years of wrangling, Nina Paley's acclaimed, brilliant short film, Sita Sings the Blues is finally available as a free, open-licensed downloads. Paley spent a shocking amount of time and money fighting over the copyrights to the 1920s jazz music that is integral to the film (some have likened it to Betty Boop in Bollywood, which is catchy, but fails to capture the fantasticness of the film), Paley's finally secured a license that allows her to distribute the whole movie, for free, forever, under a remix-friendly license. .......

here's a great idea

i never thought of! make yourself a bracelet from rare earth magnets
Author:yanan1

(there's a link to a site where you can purchase them at the instructables link above)

stitch markers are sooooooooooo expensive

(for what they are that is). well, dollar store crafts

shows us how to make our own knit and crochet markers! (pic of knitting marker from dollar store crafts. you'll have to click on that link to see the crochet ones!)

i never thought this would happen

crafts and controversy? oh not just no, but HELL no. crafts and controversy go hand in hand. depicting touchy subjects in crafts or sex in crafts - well that's been going on forever (and i hope it continues to do so). crafting is an expression of what we are, what we feel, what we know to be true, what we hope to be true. our crafts are a part of us.

no, what is shocking to me is the wapo actually writing an article about CRAFTING AND FREE EXPRESSION and crafting on the edge!!!! wowwwwwwwwwww

(the article is kinda funny too)

Uncovered! The Unseemly Side of Quilts
By Monica Hesse
Washington Post Staff Writer
The issue is wrapped in a prim plastic sleeve, but the lurid electric blue display copy still leaps from the page:

Shocking!

Controversial!

Quilts!

Quilts?

As in, "Shocking Quilts: We Show You the Controversial Patchwork." Advertised right on the cover of Quilter's Home.

(The magazine's other cover lines: "5 Popular Appliqué Glues Put to the Test," "Read This Before Buying That Longarm.")

Mark Lipinski, the editor of Quilter's Home, knew that the January/February issue might be perceived as scandalous.

This is why he took precautions -- $2,500 worth of precautions, which is what it cost to wrap each of some 45,000 copies in plastic before distributing them to newsstands and craft stores across the country. Doing his best to protect the unwary public from the adults-only images inside (but you buy it for the articles). ..........

i've made paper before

years ago. it was fun and i loved the end product. for me though, it was messy, you need a blender (which i wouldn't use for food again) AND a LOT OF ROOM

(the background noise and music is VERY annoying in this video. it's still quite helpful though if you've never made paper)
